Já há alguns anos, no último dia de aula, fazemos um lanche coletivo para comemorar a chegada das férias. Esse lanche é sempre cheio de guloseimas, em sua maioria, pouco saudáveis. Este ano resolvemos fazer diferente. Unimos nossa comemoração com o projeto da Cris, nossa nutricionista, sobre alimentação saudável. E foi delicioso!

A Cris escreveu um pouco sobre o trabalho realizado:

Hoje na escola fizemos o fechamento do projeto de alimentação saudável realizado no segundo semestre de 2015. As crianças foram desafiadas a escolher uma receita gostosa e saudável para comer no snack. Foi realizado um jogo chamado Masterchef da be.Living. Cada sala preparou sua receita e apresentou para a escola utilizando os conceitos aprendidos em sala de aula com a nossa nutricionista Cristiane.

Os funcionários e professores da be.Living votaram na melhor ideia de acordo com o objetivo proposto. A receita vencedora foi o omelete, preparado em forma de cupcake, pelo Year 4. As crianças votaram no pão de queijo com linhaça. Ambas as preparações serão colocadas no cardápio do snack da escola.

Abaixo o que cada sala preparou:

Year 1 – pão de queijo com linhaça;

Year 2 – sushi variado (frango teriaki, pepino e manga) + suco de abacaxi com hortelã;

Year 3 – sanduíche de pão de cenoura com patê de frango, pão de beterraba com queijo branco e tomate cereja e gelinho de fruta;

Year 4 – bolo de cacau e maçã e omelete na forminha de cupcake.

Foi uma experiência agradável para todos, que atingiu o objetivo principal de aprendizagem, de maneira divertida. Foi possível mostrar para as crianças que mesmo em momentos de festa e comemorações existem alimentos saudáveis e gostosos para serem consumidos.

Today was another day for sports. Gabriel’s workshop was all about tennis: the history, the ranking of best players, the rules, and, of course, some practice.

In the beginning, Gabriel was anxious and nervous, but with his friends’ help he got the hang of it and showed us all he knew. He started telling us a little about the roots of this fantastic sport. Everyone was paying close attention and showed great interest in the facts he was presenting. After presenting all the history, facts, and the rules, it was time for some real moves: we all went to the court so he could show how to hit the tennis ball in different ways. Some of the techniques he taught us were: smash, forehand, backhand. They all had a chance to try, and had a great time!

Who remembered that Rafael (Oliver’s dad) was going to create someTHING for the school community?

The highly artistic Learning Wheel Bookshelf was set up today in the reading room with the Year 2 children as his official helpers.  It will be officially inaugurated next week with Year 2 sharing what they learned from Rafael’s thorough presentation to the rest of the school community. A text and photos of the process accompany the bookshelf and you, parents, are more than welcome to come appreciate this beautiful new addition to our school.

Below, Rafael wrote about the building process and some of the reasons for his creative design. Take a look and enjoy the photos of the installation day.

– The Building Process –

This production process involves – a project, time and material calculation, execution plan, building, and installation.

Why a circle?

A circle, because there is no beginning or end to learning, the same as knowledge. In the same way that we don’t know when we first learn something, we won’t know when we’ll stop doing it.

A circle, because it is the shape of a hug, and that’s how in ancient times the elderly taught and shared experiences with the youth, around a fire in a circle of caring.

A circle, so that the be.Living community can circulate their book recommendations in order to share their reading experiences.

A circle, because the learning experience is cyclical: we get in touch with information, then we assimilate it, and it becomes part of you.  Then, we go for another “round” of leaning, and another……. Rolling like a circle, moving from Yellow to Orange to Year 5, be.Living…

Today was another special day for Year 2. Lyra showed her talent to the group: how to draw a wolf howling at the moon!

She was quite nervous in the beginning, but her friends were supportive, attentive, and respectful, a direct result of these activities, which allowed her to do things at her own pace. She calmly gave all the step-by-step instructions, and at the same time that she was giving the explanations, she was drawing along with the group. How talented!

It was such a sophisticated drawing with complex techniques, but she pulled it off well. During the whole process, she aided her friends with their drawings, lines, smudging, and coloring. They had a great time!

Today Year 2 had a magical scientific experience with Clara’s workshop!

Clara was anxious to present her experiments filled with magic to her friends. She started out a bit shy, but right after she got the hang of it, she delivered a great workshop! She was confident and presented herself as a true mini-scientist.

The first experiment was working with invisible ink. She clearly explained all the steps to the group, telling them how they had to use this ink on a piece of paper and leave it to dry. Meanwhile, she showed a second experiment: sticky glue! A mixture of white glue, a boric acid solution, sodium bicarbonate powder, and paint. After all the explanations, it was time to put their hands to work, mixing all the ingredients together! The result was a kind of gooey mixture that stretches, but doesn’t stick to your hands. Everyone made a mess and had a great time!

When the paper with the invisible ink was dry, Clara explained what they would have to do next, and then it was time for the real magic to come alive. Clara brought an iodine solution to develop what was written. Everyone was mesmerized with the results!

Depois de muitas contas, conversas, sugestões e pesquisas, o Year 1 decidiu que com o seu primeiro salário, conquistado depois de muito trabalho na barraca de doces na Festa Junina, iria visitar dois locais. O primeiro foi a Livraria da Vila, onde compraram livros de sua escolha. O percurso até a livraria foi a pé e as crianças, acompanhadas das professoras, puderam conhecer o bairro por outro ponto de vista.

O segundo passeio foi uma visita ao Instituto Butantã, onde visitaram três museus. No Museu Histórico, conheceram a história do Instituto, aprenderam como o soro e as vacinas são produzidos e observaram alguns objetos antigos. Já no Museu Biológico tiveram a oportunidade de conhecer diversas espécies de cobras, sapos e aranhas. No Museu de Microbiologia aprenderam sobre vírus, bactérias, protozoários e como é o trabalho de um cientista.

O Year 1 adorou os dois passeios, se divertiram e aprenderam muito. E saíram com a certeza de que todo o trabalho valeu a pena.

Odyssey, Atari, Master System, Sega, Super Nintendo… these were some of the names from old video-games technologies that Oliver brought to class. His workshop allowed us to travel to the past and know how people used to have fun playing those games, going to arcades.

His presentation was clear and complete: old video-game consoles and joysticks, videos presenting arcade games, posters with pictures, information and facts about these old gadgets. Everyone listened closely to everything Oliver had to present.

Some of these gadgets were novelties to the students. They were mesmerized when they saw them.

Oliver also talked about computer games, tablets, cell phones… these they were more used to.

After all the talk and videos, it was time for them to taste a bit of the past: play a game on Odyssey. Holding the joystick and handling it was something really new! They had a great time!

Leia o texto expositivo e conheça um pouco mais do povo indígena Kuikuro, estudado pelas alunas do Year 3.

Os Kuikuro ocupam as margens das lagoas entre os rios Buriti, Culuene e Curisevo. Eles habitam  principalmente 3 aldeias, a maior e mais importante é Ipatse onde vivem mais de 300 pessoas. Na aldeia Aiukuri vivem cerca de 100 pessoas e a terceira aldeia se chama Lahatuá e vivem um grupo familiar com 10 pessoas.

As aldeias dos Kuikuro são circulares  e com praça central, onde eles fazem suas cerimônias especiais. As casas Kuikuro, como todas do alto Xingu, são grandes malocas de base ovaladas, sem janela e com duas portas, uma que leva para a praça central e outra que leva para os fundos. As casas abrigam várias famílias, cada família ocupa somente o seu espaço. As mulheres dividem um lugar comum para  acender o fogo, localizado no meio da casa entre as duas portas.

Os Kuikuro falam a língua Karib.

A especialidade do povo indígena Kuikuro é fabricar cintos e colares de caramujo,  esses objetos são muitas vezes usados como pagamento pelas panelas de cerâmica feitas por outros povos indígenas.

Para se alimentar esse povo cultiva vários alimentos, inclusive a mandioca. Eles conhecem 46 tipos de mandioca. Os  Kuikuro contam que a mandioca, era plantada por um peixe no fundo do rio. Segundo uma das lendas desse povo, foi desse peixe que os Kuikuro pegaram a mandioca e começaram a cultivá-la.

O pequi é plantado perto das roças e é um importante alimento, dele se retira o óleo de pequi que usam na pele para ficarem mais bonitos. Também produzem urucum, jenipapo, argila branca e carvão vegetal.

Como os outros altoxingoanos, esse povo não come nenhum bicho de terra ou de pelo, mas quando falta peixe eles substituem pelo macaco.

Esse povo conhece mais de 100 espécies de peixes comestíveis. O peixe é um alimento muito importante  para os Kuikuro, é dele que  eles retiram toda a proteína da sua dieta.

Os Kuikuro pescam usando, arco e flecha, lanças e diversos tipos de armadilhas. Atualmente, eles sofrem muitas influências externas, nas pescarias utilizam anzol e linha, arpão e rede. Essa influência, também é percebida porque os Kuikuro precisam comprar materiais como, combustível, materiais de pesca, munição, miçangas e alimentos que não produzem.

O conhecimento da língua portuguesa cresce a cada momento, eles estão mantendo mais contato com as pessoas de fora da aldeia, através da televisão, da escolarização e viagens frequentes para fora de sua aldeia.

Today we all learned a little bit about the most famous and loved sport in Brazil: soccer.

Miguel delivered a great presentation. He was confident and knew all the important facts and dates: from the history of soccer to World Cups – the ones that Brazil won the title, of course!

The whole group was paying close attention to all the information brought by Miguel. Then, Miguel took everyone to the court and taught them how to do kick-ups and stepovers. We all had a blast! And to wrap it all up, we played a quick soccer match.
